Critical Reflection 1 - Planning

Question: How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

To begin my CCR 1, I wrote a detailed script that broke my reflection into clear, guiding questions that could be utilized in a 5–10-minute podcast:

  • the coming‑of‑age codes and conventions I used in my film

  • the origin of my production company name

  • how and why I designed my logo

  • the conventions embedded in that logo

  • the purpose of exposition in my opening

  • how my research informed my creative decisions

  • the social group and issues represented in my film, and how I portrayed them

While scripting, I pulled information from my earlier blog posts, especially the ones analyzing coming‑of‑age genre conventions such as identity formation, family dynamics, transitional spaces, and symbolic props. I also incorporated specific statistics I found during research to support the socioeconomic themes in my film, strengthening the credibility of my representation.

Once the script was complete, I asked a friend to act as the host so the CCR would feel more dynamic and interview‑style. We recorded the full conversation, making sure each question flowed naturally into the next.

Next, I imported the audio into Adobe Premiere Pro, where I will clean up the sound, remove background noise, and balance the levels. I am also adding an upbeat intro and outro track to frame the video, along with quick “swoosh” sound effects to transition between each section. These stylistic choices help maintain pacing and keep the viewer engaged while incorporating key features of a podcast.
