Pre-Project Planning (Roles)
February 9, 2026
Today I began working on my eight‑week Media Studies project, where my group will create the opening sequence of an original film. My team consists of just two people: Annabelle Hill and myself. We have already started coordinating our schedule and outlining our production plan. After comparing our availability, we decided to film our airport scenes after school on February 12th at the Sarasota Airport, and we scheduled the following Wednesday to film the house scenes. To prepare for these shoots, both of us evaluated our bedrooms to determine which space best fits the tone and aesthetic of our film.
We also finalized our group roles across pre‑production, production, and post‑production to keep our workflow organized. In pre‑production, Annabelle is responsible for scriptwriting and developing the narrative structure, while I am handling camera planning, sound requirements, and the storyboard work that was originally going to be delegated elsewhere. During production, Annabelle will act in the scenes, and I will operate the camera, manage all on‑set audio recording, and assist with directing choices and visual framing. In post‑production, Annabelle will provide feedback on pacing and performance, while I will take the lead on editing, assembling the final sequence, and supporting sound editing to ensure consistent audio quality throughout the final cut.
Roles
The 'Silver Line Productions' group consists of two people:
Annabelle Hill
Eden Hurley (myself)
The following eight primary roles were assigned at the beginning of the planning process in order to effectively time-manage and delegate tasks to the correct people.
Directors - Eden, Annabelle
Writer - Annabelle
Actor - Annabelle, Allison
Camera Operator - Eden
Artistic Director - Eden
Storyboard - Eden, Annabelle
Costume/Makeup - Annabelle
Editor - Eden
Color Grading - Annabelle
We learned the importance of creating roles after our preliminary task production (New Beginnings - Original Version), where we realized creating and assigning roles early on is critical in order to be successful for our project.
My Role:
My main role is editor and camera operator. This means that during production, I must be consistently present, attentive, and collaborative to ensure that each shot is framed, lit, and recorded effectively.
My main responsibilities include camera operation, directing support, editing, artistic direction, and contributing to the storyboard. I also manage all on‑set audio, which requires careful monitoring to maintain clarity and continuity.
As the editor, I will assemble the final sequence, refine pacing, and ensure that the visual and audio elements work together smoothly. My artistic director role involves shaping the overall mood of the film, from shot composition to visual tone. Additionally, I share responsibility for the storyboard, updating it whenever the script changes and helping translate our ideas into clear visual plans.
